Plant Care

Watering

During summer, Water daily or when the soil starts to become slightly dry at the top. During Winter season water once in 2 days or when the soil starts to become slightly dry at the top. Keep the soil lightly moist at all times, but do not overwater as this will cause brown spots and leaf drop. Curly or dry leaves suggest, the plant is dry and needs watering. Water in the early morning or late evening when temperatures are cooler. Always check your soil before watering.

Light

During summer season keep the plants in shaded area and during winter season plants can withstand direct/indirect light.

Temperature

During summer season or when the temperature is above 45°C place the plant in shaded area. During winter season or the when the temperature is below 45°C the plants can be directly placed in direct/indirect sunlight.

Fertilizer

Apply liquid fertilizer or slow release fertilizer once in 15 days. Always fertilizer the plants during the morning hours when the temperature is low. For best results use Folikraft ready to use Outdoor Plant Food / Flower Booster.

Plant Bio

Delonix regia, commonly known as the Royal Poinciana or Flamboyant Tree, is a striking flowering tree known for its vibrant display of large, showy flowers. Native to Madagascar, it is widely cultivated in tropical and subtropical regions around the world. Here's a description and care guide for Delonix regia:

Description:

Foliage: The Royal Poinciana has large, fern-like, bipinnate leaves with a feathery appearance. The leaves are bright green and provide a lush canopy.

Flowers: The most distinctive feature of Delonix regia is its flamboyant display of flowers. The blossoms are large, typically 2 to 3 inches in diameter, and can be red, orange, or a mix of both. The flowers are arranged in large, terminal clusters.

Seed Pods: After flowering, the tree produces long, woody seed pods that can reach up to 24 inches in length. The pods are brown and contain seeds.

Bark: The bark of young branches is smooth and greenish, gradually turning gray and developing a rough texture as the tree matures.

Size: Royal Poinciana is a medium to large-sized tree, capable of reaching heights of 30 to 40 feet (9 to 12 meters) or more, with a similar spread.

Care Guide:

Light: Plant Royal Poinciana in full sun to encourage vigorous growth and abundant flowering. It requires at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily.

Temperature: Royal Poinciana is well-suited for tropical and subtropical climates. It is not frost-tolerant and should be protected from temperatures below 40°F (4°C).

Watering: While the tree is drought-tolerant once established, it benefits from regular watering, especially during dry periods. Allow the soil to dry out slightly between waterings.

Soil: Plant Royal Poinciana in well-draining soil. It can adapt to various soil types but thrives in slightly acidic to neutral soil.

Fertilization: Feed the tree with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in the growing season (spring to early fall). Reduce or eliminate fertilization during the dormant period.

Pruning: Prune Royal Poinciana to shape the tree, remove dead or damaged branches, and promote a strong structure. Pruning is best done during the dormant season.

Pest and Disease Management: The tree is generally resistant to pests and diseases. Watch for occasional issues like caterpillars or aphids and treat them promptly. Good air circulation helps prevent fungal diseases.

Propagation: Propagate Royal Poinciana from seeds. Scarify the seeds before planting to enhance germination. The tree can also be propagated from semi-hardwood cuttings, but this method is less common.

Royal Poinciana is widely appreciated for its stunning floral display and is often planted as an ornamental shade tree in parks, gardens, and along streets in tropical and subtropical regions. With proper care, including sunlight, well-draining soil, regular watering, and occasional feeding, you can enjoy the breathtaking beauty of the Royal Poinciana in your landscape.
