Plant Care

Watering

During summer, Water daily or when the soil starts to become slightly dry at the top. During Winter season water once in 2 days or when the soil starts to become slightly dry at the top. Keep the soil lightly moist at all times, but do not overwater as this will cause brown spots and leaf drop. Curly or dry leaves suggest, the plant is dry and needs watering. Water in the early morning or late evening when temperatures are cooler. Always check your soil before watering.

Light

During summer season keep the plants in shaded area and during winter season plants can withstand direct/indirect light.

Temperature

During summer season or when the temperature is above 45°C place the plant in shaded area. During winter season or the when the temperature is below 45°C the plants can be directly placed in direct/indirect sunlight.

Fertilizer

Apply liquid fertilizer or slow release fertilizer once in 15 days. Always fertilizer the plants during the morning hours when the temperature is low. For best results use Folikraft ready to use Outdoor Plant Food / Flower Booster.

Plant Bio

Ornamental cabbage, scientifically known as Brassica oleracea, is a beautiful and versatile ornamental plant that is prized for its colorful and frilly foliage. While it belongs to the same species as edible cabbage, ornamental varieties are grown primarily for their aesthetic appeal rather than for consumption. Here's a description and care guide for ornamental cabbage:

Description:

Ornamental cabbage forms rosettes of large, broad leaves that are often frilled or ruffled at the edges.
The foliage comes in a range of vibrant colors, including shades of purple, pink, white, and green. Some varieties may exhibit marbling or veining in contrasting hues.
In colder climates, ornamental cabbage may develop a tighter, more compact growth habit, while in milder climates, it may spread out more.
While the primary appeal of ornamental cabbage is its foliage, it may also produce small, inconspicuous flowers on tall stalks, although these are not typically the main attraction.

Care Tips:

Sunlight: Ornamental cabbage prefers full sun to partial shade. Provide it with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily for best foliage coloration and overall growth.
Temperature: Ornamental cabbage is tolerant of cool temperatures and can withstand light frost. However, prolonged exposure to freezing temperatures can damage the foliage. Protect plants during cold snaps or bring containers indoors if temperatures drop significantly.
Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water deeply whenever the top inch of soil feels dry, especially during hot or dry weather. Avoid overhead watering to prevent fungal diseases.
Soil: Plant ornamental cabbage in well-draining soil that is rich in organic matter. A slightly acidic to neutral soil pH is ideal. Amending the soil with compost before planting can improve drainage and fertility.
Fertilization: Ornamental cabbage is not heavy feeder, but you can apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer at planting time to provide nutrients throughout the growing season. Avoid excessive nitrogen, as it can promote lush foliage growth at the expense of vibrant coloration.
Spacing: Space ornamental cabbage plants according to their mature size, typically 12 to 18 inches apart, to allow for adequate air circulation and prevent overcrowding.
Pest and Disease Control: Ornamental cabbage is relatively pest-resistant, but it may attract aphids, cabbage loopers, or cabbage worms. Monitor plants regularly and treat infestations with insecticidal soap or neem oil as needed. Watch for signs of fungal diseases, especially in humid conditions, and remove affected leaves promptly.
Maintenance: Remove any yellowing or damaged leaves as needed to maintain the plant's appearance. Deadheading spent flowers can also promote tidier growth and prevent self-seeding.

With proper care, ornamental cabbage can add a splash of color and texture to your garden beds, borders, or containers, especially in fall and winter when its vibrant foliage stands out against the seasonal landscape.
